New high-efficiency single-photon detection system funded by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)

Funding from the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) has enabled us to acquire a high-efficiency single-photon detection system based on superconducting nanowires for our laboratories. By combining this system with our existing quantum light sources, we aim to expand our research into practical applications of quantum technology.

Welcome to the website of the Experimental Quantum Optics group

Dear visitors,

the Experimental Quantum Optics group at the Institute of Physics, University of Rostock, investigates the quantum properties of light from both fundamental and technological perspectives. We aim to deepen our understanding of quantum physics. Preparing and analysing specific states of the light field allows us to study the laws of quantum physics in a well-defined, controllable physical system that is largely isolated from environmental influences. We also advance the technological applications of quantum physics, including quantum information processing, quantum sensing and quantum simulation.

We invite you to explore our website. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments about our research, teaching or the website itself.

Kind regards,

Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Boris Hage
Head of the Experimental Quantum Optics group

New laser workstation funded by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)

Funding from the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) has enabled us to establish a new laser workstation in our laboratories . The experiments using this workstation aim to extend our research to the wavelength range around 1550 nm used in commercial fibre-optic networks.
